18 Mar Bittrex cleans wallet, will drop 82 altcoins by Mar 30
US cryptocurrency exchange Bittrex will drop 82 altcoins from the 190+ coins now listed for trading.
While it has added several dozen digital coins in the past two months, Bittrex is moving to delist coins that have low trading volume or broken blockchains by March 30.
Here’s what the company said in a statement on its website:
“Occasionally, there are circumstances that lead Bittrex to remove a coin’s wallet or market from the Bittrex Exchange. These actions are taken to ensure customers have access to digital tokens that continue to meet our strict coin listing criteria and have a properly functioning blockchain and wallet.”
Users have until March 30 to withdraw their coins or lose access.
While many of the coins to be dropped are not household names, several coins were a surprise including FC2, GEMZ, and METAL.
26 coins have broken blockchains or wallets
In the blockchain world, many projects are shuttered within six months, end up with inadequate or experienced programmer support, fail to complete development or are simply unable to evolve into a viable business.
Among the list of currencies to be cleaned out are 26 coins which have broken blockchains. This may prevent some coin owners from withdrawing balance is to create its investors.
With that many broken coins, you have to wonder if Bittrex did a poor job of assessing coins for listing in the first place. That said, the exchange did provide trading opportunities for many new startup coins and small players.

Most exchanges regularly list and delist coins. While frustrating and upsetting to some customers, the end result should be better trading results for the remaining coins on the Bittrex exchange.
